This the 25th day we’ve been on the road. I’m having trouble remembering what day of the week it is. We’re starting to wish for home.
Spring is coming to Kansas, but it seems a little later than in the areas we were a few days before. I saw no more redbuds, but we did pass fields green with new wheat.
I like going across Kansas, but I’ve done it many, many times. The eastern part isn’t wonderful, although there are good places to stop. But it is the western part I like — the open spaces, the small towns, the almost featureless land that makes the sky so big.
We hit rain after charging the car in Hays. It rained steadily for an hour or so as we zipped west. When the rain stopped, we found the temperature had dropped 25º. At least it isn’t snowing.
And listening to the news, we’re glad we didn’t come back through Houston.

Thanks for the pictures of Kansas. My parents grew up near Hays, and I visited there a couple of years ago. These brought back memories. And, by the way, Kansas IS flatter than a pancake.
