We’re ready to set off once again. We had struggled to put together a road trip in June, but it never came together. It was too hard to coordinate the visits with the travel with our home commitments. Perhaps some things just aren’t meant to be. But now we’ve blown the dust off those plans and will leave Friday.
Andrea and I love road trips. For us, there is something wonderful about cruising down the highway together, visiting people, going different places, and — especially — meeting the unexpected. At home we fall into our ruts. (I’m more susceptible to that than she is.) Road trips take us away from the routine.
I’ve heard that many young people don’t get drivers licenses. That’s probably a good thing, but I internalized too many of the car ads in the 1950s. Plus, there were all those movies about wagon trains rolling west. And the TV show “Route 66.” It was inescapable.
We’re staying home through Friday morning to sing in our new choir. In the past when we’ve left after lunch I’ve forgotten to take some essentials and had to replace them on the road. We’ll see how it goes this time.
Cheers, Kate
Keep on truckin’…but only after you sing first!! Looking forward to the trip!!
